headspace Katherine is a free and confidential service for eligible young people aged between 12 and 25 who need support with their mental health and  wellbeing. headspace Katherine provides assistance in 4 key areas: Mental Health, Physical and Sexual Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and Vocational Support.

headspace Katherine is an inclusive service which does not discriminate regardless of race, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability. 

We provide flexible and responsive services to young people at our headspace Katherine hub or via our mobile outreach service to surrounding communities within the Katherine region.

headspace Katherine is operated by Anglicare NT. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, NT PHN .


Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Sexual health screenings on site or links to local services. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on. 

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

If you are already engaged with a clinician at headspace Katherine, you may have been offered to attend your sessions via video using Healthdirect.

headspace Katherine is committed to providing family inclusive services to young people and their family and friends. Strong family and friends support is pivotal to young people’s health and wellbeing. headspace is committed to responding to young people’s needs to be undertaken in the context of significant people in their lives, whether they are family members, carers, partners, or friends. Family and friends are often the first to notice a change in a young person’s emotions or behaviour that may signal the onset of a mental health or substance use problem. They also frequently encourage the young person to seek help or attempt to access help on their behalf. 

headspace Katherine continually look to improve ways by which we engage and include family and friends.

Referrals should include as much information as possible and should be undertaken with the consent of the young person.

The consent form outlines information that the worker will talk with you about at the first appointment. Consent and confidentiality are important issues for headspace and this will be discussed in detail with all young people who access the service.

For some of our counselling options, you will need a Medicare card to access sessions under a Mental Health Care Plan. For more information on how to apply for a Medicare card, click here.

If you don't have a Medicare card, please call us to discuss options.

If you are a GP and would like to refer a young person to headspace, we accept standard referral letters or you can fill out a referral form here.

Referrals should include as much information as possible and be undertaken with the consent of the young person.

Referrals from GP's should include a Mental Health Care Plan for the young person. Please attach this to your referral and send it to:

What is the headspace Katherine Youth Reference Group?

We are a committed group of young people who have a keen interest in mental health.

The headspace Katherine Youth Reference Group will help you to:


  • gain an understanding of mental health issues
  • have input into the running of a mental health service
  • have opportunities to advocate for improved youth related services in the Katherine region.


The YRG is for young people aged between 15 and 25 who have an interest in mental health and the improvement of mental health services for young people in the Katherine region. The group meets once fortnightly to discuss these topics.

What is the headspace Katherine PRISM Group?

PRISM is a safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community aged 12 to 25.

  • a place of acceptance and trust 
  • a place where you can be yourself
  • a place of love and friendships


The group will meet fortnightly at headspace Katherine or other spaces around town.

The headspace Katherine Community Engagement team can be booked to attend local events and deliver mental health literacy sessions at your school or organisation.

Some of the topics we can cover include:


  • 'What is' mental health?
  • Awareness of depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems
  • Physical health (including sexual health)
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Bullying education (including cyber bullying)
