headspace around Town - Mental Health Week 2015

Mental Health Week 2015 saw headspace Kalgoorlie out and about around town promoting mental health and wellbeing.

We had a very busy week starting off on Wednesday with our Mental Health Challenge Day with the students at Western Australian School of the Mines.

Students participated in team activities such as:  tug-o-war, giant egg and spoon races, and donut eating competitions to win various prizes. The competition was followed by a barbecue lunch courtesy of the Curtin Uni Guild, with fruit provided by the Red Cross.

On Thursday headspace was one of the many stalls to attend the Mental Health Week Coolgardie Families Day celebration at Coolgardie Park. This event saw over 30 stall holders (mostly local services) come together to put on an amazing day for the people of Coolgardie. The YMCA were there with their giant inflatables, Jump4Us also brought along their Pirate Ship and Cars jumping castles, there was face painting galore and lots of fun activities for the whole family! A huge thank you to Community Mental Health for their donation towards the day, as well as to Lynn Hazelton our MC, Joshua Rogers our amazing performer, and all of the Bega, Youth Justice and Hope Community Services crew who kept us all fed.

On Friday we attended the Act-Belong-Commit Kalgoorlie Families Day in St Barbara's Square. There was heaps of free and healthy food provided by Partners in Recovery and the dietitians from 360 Health + Community. There were lots of fun activities including stress ball making, painting, and a scavenger hunt by Population Health and the Act-Belong-Commit Team.

A huge thank you to all of the event organisers, volunteers and services who provided donations so that all these amazing events could happen!
