All our services are still available; our mental health workers are still working and you can still make appointments. Our mental health support is via online and phone, contact us at the centre to find out more – 64242144.

The centre has wheelchair access throughout and all services at headspace are free to Australian citizens or permanent residents through Medicare ( click here for further information ), and to anyone else through arrangement with our Lead Agent, Cornerstone Youth Services. headspace Devonport is operated by Cornerstone Youth Services. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Tasmania (Primary Health Tasmania).

The position

These full time positions will suit energetic and enthusiastic mental health clinicians with a desire to work within the youth mental health area and contribute to the headspace Burnie community.

The mental health clinicians will work closely with staff in the headspace primary care team (General Practitioners, psychologists, social workers, youth health nurses and allied health workers) and a range of government and non-government service providers. 

Other key relationships include other service providers, school communities and co-located services.

The successful applicant must hold a degree in psychology, social work, occupational therapy or other similar allied health discipline with eligibility for relevant registration or professional membership.  To be considered you will have knowledge and experience in the delivery of evidence-based counselling frameworks.

The organisation

headspace services are delivered by Cornerstone Youth Services (CYS) Inc., providing a broad range of services to our community of young people aged 12 to 25 in North and North-West Tasmania. CYS focuses on health promotion, prevention, education, early intervention and developing help-seeking behaviours.

Their services to young people include access to ‘no charge’ GP's, Youth Health Nurses, Drug & Alcohol, Social Workers and Allied Health services.  They also provide individual and group support and activities, school programs, advocacy to access and many other services to improve general or specific health and well-being.

Are you an experienced Youth Health Nurse? headspace in Devonport has an opportunity for you to join a dynamic team and work for a nationally renowned organisation that is making a real difference in the lives of young Tasmanians.

The Position

The purpose of the Youth Health Nurse is to provide clinical services to young people with mild to moderate mental health disorders. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including general practitioners (GPs), psychiatrists and allied health staff to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.

As the Youth Health Nurse you will provide coordinated services to young people with a range of mental health disorders, including undertaking assessments and ongoing care in accordance with best practice and clinical guidelines for the treatment of that disorder. The Youth Health Nurse will also provide general health checks for young people and where required instigate a mental health treatment plan on behalf of a GP.

Some aspects of the role may require adherence to the Australian Government Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP) guidelines.

Essential Requirements:

  • Current nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  • Current credentialing as a mental health nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN), or eligibility to become credentialed.

In order to be eligible for this role you must also have the following:

Essential

  • Extensive experience in the provision of mental health care to young people, including completion of mental health assessments, crisis management, general health checks, psycho-education and treatment interventions that use current evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience working with young people experiencing a range of mental health, substance use, and/or social problems.
  • Proven track record at working effectively in a multidisciplinary team in a health setting.

Desirable

  • Experience in the planning, provision and evaluation of group-based interventions for young people and their family and friends.
  • Experience in the Australian public health sector.

Once the form is received, we will phone you within 2 working days. 
The person calling you will be a mental health professional from our access team and will discuss what's happening for you at the moment. If headspace is the right service for you, we'll arrange a time to meet you in person at the centre. This is a chance to ask more questions and get a good idea of what we provide. You're welcome to bring in a support person - family, friend - anyone you'd like to have with you.

headspace Devonport IPS Program

What is It?

IPS is a program dedicated to helping young people who have mental health concerns, to access jobs that they are interested in and passionate about. 
It’s about finding a job you want, and where you can work with an employer who respects where you’re at in terms of your recovery. We also assist you to get into training and study that will help you get to where you want to be. 

headspace Devonport is excited to offer this unique service to young people.

Who can join?

IPS is available to young people aged between 12 to 25, who are interested in work, and who have some mental health concerns. You don’t need to be referred by a doctor or have a mental health diagnosis.
